Community Organizing

Founded on the Neechi Principals of Community Economic Development, West Broadway Community Organization (WBCO) is fundamentally committed to local decision making and community self-determination. As a Neighbourhood Renewal Corporation and resident’s association, WBCO engages in the following community organizing and capacity building activities.

  • West Broadway Community Planning Coordination

As a Neighbourhood Renewal Corporation, West Broadway Community Organization is fundamentally committed to local decision making and community self-determination. A core element of our work is to facilitate regular, intensive consultations with residents, workers, business owners, and other neighbourhood stakeholders to identify local priorities and shared goals.

  • West Broadway Directors Network

The West Broadway Directors Network brings together senior managers, executive directors, and chief administrative officers of West Broadway-based non-profits, associations, facilities, face groups, and schools. This is a regular opportunity for information and resource sharing, collaboration and neighbourhood-wide problem solving.

  • Small Grants Program

For over a decade, the Government of Manitoba has provided Small Grant funding to communities across the province. Coordinated locally by West Broadway Community Organization (WBCO), the Small Grants Fund is available for neighbourhood-based groups and organizations delivering projects that build the social, environment, and/or economic capacity of our community.

  • Community Events Coodination

West Broadway Community Organization (WBCO), helps to organize and host a number of marquee events each year in West Broadway. Recognizing that community events foster a sense of belonging, introducing neighbours to one another, and strengthening bonds between community partners.

  • Community Asset Support

As a Neighbourhood Renewal Corporation, one of West Broadway Community Organization’s central roles is to ensure that neighbourhood assets are utilized to their highest and best purpose, as defined by consultation and planning efforts. WBCO works to support community facilities, manage green spaces, inform infill developments, encourage investment in housing stock, and address gaps or deficiencies in infrastructure or amenities.
