Community Events Coodination

Each year WBCO spearheads organizing efforts for the West Broadway Snoball Winter Carnival, the West Broadway Spring Clean Up, the West Broadway leg of the annual March for Peace, the Good Food Club Harvest and Holiday Suppers, the Summertime Family Fun Day, and a host of workshops, work parties, block meetings, tenant meetings, townhall meetings, information sharing events, and celebrations. As a Neighbourhood Renewal Corporation, one of WBCO’s central roles is to build community identity and capacity among stakeholders. Hosting community events, particularly those organized by a team of community partners is an excellent way to accomplish these goals and many others.

West Broadway is a dynamic neighbourhood where people of many cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds live side by side in the heart of Winnipeg’s inner city. 92 percent of households rent their home, and with a significant number of students moving in and out of the neighbourhood each year, it is common that we may not always know our neighbours. In this context, organizing or attending community events is vital for fostering a sense of belonging, a sense of personal safety, and a feeling of community pride.
